Guest Post: The Darkness by Brion Evers

This one is for every entrepreneur, intrapreneur, thought leader, and general human being, taking life one step at a time. -Taylor

It starts with a flicker. Like something in the corner of your eye that just catches your attention - but you aren’t really sure why. The tingles up and down your arms and at the tips of your fingers, as the knot in your stomach begins to tighten. “Why didn’t you speak up?”, “Why did you even say that?” or worse “How long do you think it will be, until they realize that you are a fraud?”

You take a deep breath, in an attempt to stay grounded- but it's too late. “The Darkness” has already arrived. Sometimes they appear as a dark mass, pulsating in sync with your wounded heart - and sometimes - like your “shadow self” that you swore didn’t exist - sitting right in front of you, a morbid grin almost to say “What, you didn’t think it was just you in there, did you?”.

The unusual thing about “the darkness” is that the more you fight against it - the stronger it becomes. Resistance, regardless of its intent - creates a friction that just feeds into its power. Like trying to swim against a riptide, it doesn’t matter how hard you paddle - there is only going to be one outcome.

We all have rough edges, dark corners and gnarly scars (seen and unseen). The only way to the light is through absolute radical acceptance. Darkness may follow, but it can’t infect our path without our permission. We must learn to sit with it. Embrace it. Acknowledge its existence. Hold loving space, and say aloud “It’s ok, you don’t need to protect me anymore”.

Watch how the world opens up to you when you are no longer trying to project the person you think we all want you to be. The goal is to vibrate at such a high frequency, that you will automatically attract people and opportunities looking to reward the person you are trying to become. Greatness is cultivated through keeping little promises to yourself that will compound over time. Surrender to the process - without attachment to result and as the darkness fades, everything you did not think was possible; will slowly start to become your reality. “it has already happened, time just hasn’t caught up yet”.
